It’s that time of year again! This is our major fundraiser every year and helps subsidize camping fees, provide scholarships for camping, and buys and repairs Troop equipment. This is just a heads-up, and further details will be posted as soon as I have them. Dates for fliers and deliveries can be found on the Troop 11 Calendar. Any questions can be directed to mulch @ troop11bsa . org (remove the extra spaces when you email) . MORE TO FOLLOW!

Calendar Page

If you click on over to the Calendar page, you’ll see a new Google calendar. I finally figured out how to embed it in a WordPress page :-) . It’s a little easier to update and a bit cleaner looking than the old one.

Government Day

OOOps
I forgot to mention Government day. On the council website there is info regarding Gov’t day this Friday. It is not too late to sign up and they are very interested in getting a few more boys to participate. After years of running it, this event had been cancelled but was reinstated last year. It is in jeopardy of being cancelled again so if you are interested, jump on it NOW!

Welcome Back in 2010

Good Morning Troop 11

Hope everyone had a great holiday season. Seemed like it was a long one this year which made it especially hard to get going yesterday.
This Thursday we get rolling for 2010 with a PLC meeting and RAN. Hope everyone can make it. The PLC has some planning to do for February and March. I will get some info out to the RAN guys so they know what needs to be covered as well.
This month, the night of the 17th specificly, we will be holding a “Rock Gym Lock-In” at Peak Experiences in Richmond. Peak Experiences is a tremendous facility where the boys can learn to climb at all levels from total noviced to advanced. This will be an all nighter starting Sunday night and returning home Monday morning (the kids are out of school for MLK Day). I will send out a seperate e-mail with the permission slips attached. There are two, one for Troop 11 and the other for Peak Experiences, Also, we will need adults who can attend, My work situation has changed such that I cannot make it.
See you all on Thursday!

Mayflower Marathon Service Project

The Mayflower Marathon collects food donations for 57 hours straight on November 20, 21, & 22. Sometime in this period, we will assist with sorting and boxing non-perishables … we just haven’t figured out when yet :-) . All of this food goes to benefit the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula. POC is the Scoutmaster.

ORIENTEERING EVENT- REGISTRATION DEADLINE 10/29/2009

Good Morning Troop 11 !!!!!

That’s right folks, no sooner do you get your tent dry from the last outing and it is time to sign up for the next one. This next trip will be one of the best of the year. It is a major orienteering event put on by the Quantico Orienteering Club for the Boy Scouts of America. I am not sure how many years this event has been going on, but I can tell you that I competed in it when I was in scouts. In case you are unfamiliar, orienteering is the navigation through the woods using map and compass. The nice thing about this event is that there are divisions for all ages and experience levels, so everyone can enjoy.

It is about a 5 hour drive to get there, so we will leave as soon as possible on Friday 11/6. We will travel in Class A and all scouts should plan to wear Class B during the event on Saturday. All scouts will need to have had dinner on Friday and have money to buy lunch on the way home Sunday. Also, as always, we are looking for adults who like to attend the outing. This is a camping trip, so the beds might not be so great but the food will be excellent!

Click here to download the permission slip.

PS-Just as a reminder of troop policy. Money should never be a reason to not attend an outing. If your son would like to attend an outing, but funds are tight, please contact myself or Mr. Barnes and we will handle it.
