About Troop 11

Troop 11 at Camp Cherokee

Troop 11 at Camp Cherokee, Summer 2009

Troop 11 was chartered originally to Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church in April of 1934. When the church moved from its old neighborhood in the East End to Harpersville Road in the center of the city and merged with Peninsula Central Methodist Church, Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church was created and the Troop continued with no lapse.

Troop 11 has been blessed with with dedicated Scouters over the years, many of whom have been products of Troop 11’s program when they were boys, as well as many who came with new ideas to make the Troop even better. The present Scouts and Scouters continue to carry on the traditions of Scouting at Chestnut Memorial UMC.

Troop 11 meets on Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Chestnut Memorial UMC, unless otherwise notified. We are an “outdoor” Troop, camp year-round, and do a week-long summer camp. We are definitely a boy-led Troop, with adult leaders acting as advisers and resources.

You can be a Scout if you have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10 years old, or are age 11, or have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, but have not reached the age of 18.
